How and Why Adrafinil Becomes Modafinil in the Brain

Adrafinil is a drug that helps illustrate the complex nature of nootropics. While some people may draw a distinction between Adrafinil and Modafinil, for instance, when the body breaks down Adrafinil, Modafinil is the primary byproduct. Adrafinil is classified as a Modafinil prodrug. The biochemistry behind the effects of Modafinil is somewhat complicated and warrants additional research, but it may be directly or indirectly interacting with the histamine system.

Adrafinil is also a drug that helps illustrate the complexities of stimulant supplements. Many people associate stimulant supplements with feelings of hyperactivity. The stimulant that people will typically have the most experience with is caffeine. People know that in certain doses, given certain levels of tolerance, caffeine simply makes people feel more alert and fights any feelings of fatigue. However, even taking marginally higher doses may make certain people feel so energetic that they have a difficult time concentrating on anything or sitting still. Taking too much caffeine is often counterproductive for individuals that are specifically taking the supplement in order to get the energy that they need to complete their work.

What is Adrafinil and Modafinil?

When people keep to the recommended dosage of Adrafinil, their feelings of fatigue will disappear. However, they will not become significantly more energetic as a result. Some stimulants can make a person feel more energetic than he or she would feel on a normal day. Since Adrafinil can take away a person’s fatigue, what it’s really doing is bringing them up to a normal energy level in the first place. For people who are working all the time, even feeling a normal energy level is going to feel like an enhanced energy level, which may fuel some misconceptions about Adrafinil.

More Information

Many people have also claimed that Adrafinil improved their memory when they started a regular regimen of Adrafinil supplements. Different supplements are going to interact Adrafinil vs Modafinildifferently with different people’s systems, so it is possible that they just had a different reaction compared to the majority of patients. However, the fact that these patients experienced improvements in memory could actually be an interesting byproduct of Adrafinil’s main effect.

Uses and Research

Adrafinil makes people feel less tired. Individuals who are overly tired tend to experience problems with memory for whatever reason. It is possible that the people who are taking Adrafinil are getting to experience improvements in memory because they’re no longer tired. The reasons why fatigue and memory problems are connected are somewhat complicated, so it isn’t surprising that situations like this might occur. It is possible that people are better able to utilize their memories specifically because they aren’t as tired, or it’s possible that this is a side-effect of Adrafinil’s effects on a person’s overall brain chemistry. The effects of Adrafinil on memory certainly merit further scientific research, since the supplement may have some direct effects on memory that people are not taking into account.

Overall, the people who take supplements like Adrafinil will benefit from a lot of the additional research that is being done in that direction. There haven’t been enough studies that directly involve Adrafinil and supplementation. A great deal of the information available on Adrafinil is actually based on the information available about Modafinil. While Modafinil is a byproduct of the breakdown of Adrafinil, it is possible that there are significantly more subtle differences between the side-effects and the main effects of both supplements.

Modafinil and Fatigue

Many people take Modafinil in order to fight sleeping disorders specifically, and not necessarily as a nootropic. A lot of the information on this and related supplements comes from these situations, and people with sleep disorders may react differently to the supplement than the people without sleeping disorders who take it in order to fight more conventional feelings of fatigue.

Many people in the nootropics community avoid Adrafinil as a result of Adrafinil liver concern. It is true that the process by which Adrafinil is converted into Modafinil occurs in the liver. However, there hasn’t been a great deal of research related to the Adrafinil liver concern that people are considering when they evaluate the positives and negatives associated with taking Adrafinil. While concerned individuals will have to do their own cost and benefit analysis, it seems that taking Adrafinil in moderation should be an effective way to combat fatigue in healthy individuals.

Where can I buy adrafinil? Also, how much of a concern is the liver issue? User testimony, anyone?

    • modafinilgeek

The liver issue really isn’t much of a concern. You just shouldn’t take adrafinil everyday for months or years on end. Basically, take breaks every other week or so and you’ll be fine. 😀
